Evalutation - Conventions of real media products (Adverts)
I have carried out a lot of research into adverts included in radio shows. I wanted my radio to hold authenticity throughout, so I ensured I understood all the conventions which are included. The main conventions which were made apparent to me was that the advert had to be geared towards a clear target audience. This meant advertising products which were suitable to the audience which would tune into the radio channel. For example, listeners for Capital would be a younger audience then those of Classical fm. Therefore, there would have been a noticeable distinguish between choice of products being advertised in each of the shows. I heavily focused on any slogans, brands of products, type of music or voice overs which I thought would be effective. Moreover, I ensured my adverts used persuasive language and would have attracted attention from my target audience. I made sure I incorporated all the conventions I mentioned in my research and planning when scripting the adverts I included.
Below are my blog posts which includes my research into adverts. I have also included the scripts for my adverts.

One of my adverts I chose to create was about Ben and Jerry's release of its new ice cream flavour; peanut butter crunch. I thought this would be appealing to my target audience as both genders, within my targeted age group of 16-28 year olds have a sweet tooth. This kind of advert would also be suitably geared towards a local community. The advert contains conventions which I have analysed from other adverts; such as a voice over and background music. I ensured my actress's voice conveyed an upbeat, merry tone. This was in order to match the Hawaiian style music I had playing in the background. I tried to incorporate delectable word descriptions when describing the ice cream, such as 'huge swirls of peanut butter sauce'. I also included a pun; 'go nuts over Ben and Jerry's Peanut Butter crunch ice cream'. I did this in order to be as persuasive as possible, in trying to get listeners to buy the product. I have inserted my final advert below:
My next advert is persuading listeners to sign up to a membership for Pure Gym. As this advert is being played on a local radio station, North Side fm, I ensured that a local area within North London was mentioned. Therefore, I scripted the first line as 'join pure gym Archway today'. Like my previous advert, I have also included a voice over and up tempo music, which both reflect the captivated nature and tone. Due the competitive fitness industry, I have referred to the name of the gym a few times throughout. This was to ensure listers are aware of which gym business is being advertised. I have also mentioned pure gyms website, as well as including a slogan right at the end. These two conventions I found after analysing many existing adverts. Below is my finished advert:
I feel as though my adverts help give my radio show authenticity, which was one of my main objectives. After analysing many radio shows and the adverts which they include, I was able to gather a sense of the conventions which were present throughout. This enabled me to accurately tie some of these into mine. The software which I used in the production process was good practice and benefitted my understanding of the technology which goes into creating sound effects and editing the music.
I have included the sound files for music I used in both these adverts.
