Finalised radio script

After writing out drafts for each of my news stories, I have written up a finalised version. I have ensured this script is aimed at my target audience, and I have included a variety of news stories. Moreover, I made sure the stories have taken place within the area my show is going to be broadcasted in, North London, as it is a local radio station.

Below is the final script:

News story write up:

End of Song fades in – ‘I Am’ by Jorja Smith

Show Presenter/Emma Brown: That was Jorja Smith with ‘I Am’ – you need to check her new album when it’s out in June and catch her on tour this summer. She’s playing the Roundhouse in Camden on June 5th. We’ll be giving away tickets for that and loads of summer gigs, all next week. Coming up we’ve got new music from Drake and Frank Ocean plus the second part of our exclusive interview with UK rap sensation Legit. All that and more, after the news.

News Jingle: The news for North London on Northside FM 104.2.

News Presenter/Dylan Green: Hi I’m Dylan Green with the news at 12. A protest against the opening of a new nightclub in Muswell Hill provoked angry scenes yesterday afternoon, resulting in two arrests. Local tenants, who have raised concerns regarding crime prevention in the area, clashed with club owner Simon Wood over proposals for the club which is due to open at the end of July. The club which will specialize in Grime music will be open three nights a week. Local resident Lisa Freeman spoke to our entertainment correspondent before scenes turned ugly yesterday.

Reporter/Eli Caine: Hi, I am here today in the midst of the march against the opening of new nightclub, Visions, in Muswell Hill. Residents argue that the club will encourage antisocial behaviour, noise pollution, and will lead to a rise in rubbish on the streets.

 *Noises of protest*

Reporter/Eli Caine: I managed to speak to Lisa Freeman a resident of Muswell Hill and organizer of the march about challenging the opening of the club.

Lisa Freeman: I’ve lived in this neighbourhood for over ten years now and I have seen an increase in crime and violence among young people with every new bar and pub that opens. I am worried that the already over-stretched police in the area will struggle to cope with the opening of Mr Wood’s club. It is time our voices were heard!

News Presenter/Dylan Green: Mr Wood was unavailable for comment. In other news...

Local police are set to launch a crime awareness drive, called ‘Is Your Property Insecure’, aimed at local residents after the sixth robbery this month in Albert Terrace, Camden Town. Residents have petitioned the council to install CCTV cameras and have set up their own neighborhood watch team. The Met’s Susan Nelson outlined her concerns about the rise in crime in the area, when she spoke to Northside FM earlier this morning.

Susan Nelson: My real hope is that our initiative will make residents in Camden feel safer and ultimately we hope to see a fall in crimes such as burglary and robbery in the area. We are committed to making the public feel less vulnerable. Everyone should feel safe in their own home.

News Presenter/Dylan Green: Three local schools are putting on performances this week to raise awareness for Abella Caron, a young mother from Camden detained whilst visiting Iran on a work trip. Brookland Secondary School, St Martin’s High School and Duncombe School for Girls hope that their performances will bring Abella’s plight to the attention of the Home Office and will speed up her release. Northside FM’s Bella Harris spoke to students and parents of Dunscombe School for Girls backstage after the show to find out why they felt it was so important to draw attention to Abella Caron’s story.

Vox Pop 1 (Parent): As a parent I think it’s extremely important for my kids to be educated about global issues. A young lady, a mother herself, is being held against her will. I hope our performances can help bring her home.

Vox Pop 2 (Student): I love to perform and learn new information. I also think this will be a good way to teach everyone about what is happening in the world today. Free Abella Caron!

Vox Pop 3 (Member of the Public): I’ve heard about these performances being held from flyers going round. I don’t know much about what is happening, so I’d be interested to learn a lot more about it. I think it’s great that children in the local community feel so passionate about such an important subject.

News Presenter/Dylan Green: And finally…Vegan restaurant ‘Wild Food Hut’ in Archway has been forced to close after it was revealed that one of the ‘secret ingredients’ to their signature dish, contained animal fats.

Restaurant owner Louis Neil is under investigation by the Food Standards Authority, despite issuing a formal apology stating that he was unaware that chefs were prepping food in ways which went against restaurants guidelines. Restaurant critic Peter Rhodes spoke to us earlier today and said that Neil had no choice but to close the popular restaurant.

Peter Rhodes (on the phone): There’s a bond between a restaurant and its customers, built on trust. Vegans, in fact, any customer, needs to trust the ingredients that are put into the dishes they eat. The ‘Wild Food Hut’ has broken that trust and the owner must take full responsibility. I expect that their will be legal action from unhappy customers.

News Presenter/Dylan Green: I’ll be back in an hour on Northside FM with more news.
