Preliminary task evaluation

Image
I am now going to include a small evaluation which will talk through my recording and editing process. I am going to note how I found this task, via mentioning the challenges, skills I picked up, how the technology helped me achieve my goal and how what I have learned will help me with the preparation for my final task.  As this was my first time using Adobe Audition, I found it quite difficult at the start learning how to use the technology to edit and mix the final recordings, along with music and sound effects. As I progressed, managed to pick up certain skills, which gave me a much better understanding on what I needed to do, to create an authentic sports show.  For example, I learnt how to filter the sound of the commentators voice, via taking out some of the bass and treble. Around his voice, the sound of the shots were assembled on the multitrack screen. In regards to sound effects, the crowd cheering was put in right at the end,

Final preliminary task

After completing the recording my preliminary task, I mixed and edited it during post production. At the start I found it quite confusing to understand how to use the technology. However, through it got easier and I managed to create  a good show, whilst keeping my target audience and genre in mind.   I have uploaded it to Soundcloud, and placed the audio file below:

Potential sound effects and music for preliminary task

I have thought about any potential music and sound effects which I would like to use in my preliminary task. I have am going to look BBC sound effect's library, as well as browsing through CD's in my colleges music library.  I have also included many sound effects, such as crowds cheering/being quiet, and the noises of tennis balls being hit, in order to resemble a tennis match. This creates authenticity and enhances verisimilitude for listeners.  The music I chose for my jingle was Skate Rock, which is a commercialized version of skate music. Before choosing this, I listened to other radio stations of this genre, such as Talk Sport, which included similar music. After conducting further research, I figured  Sport genres use rock music in their jingles as they have a predominately male audience. The average age of audiences who tune in to this genre of radio are usually around 40, who enjoy indie rock music. Therefore, I added more of a beat to make it more appeal

Script of preliminary task

Script of preliminary task  My preliminary task was to create a five minute extract from an imaginary radio show, I chose to be a sports station. The radio show will include a presenter introducing a special guest, the guest responding, an archive clip featuring the guest and a jingle.  This tag will help me learn about how to use all the equipment, how to record and use all the editing software. As well a this, it will also give me a better insight to all of the sound effects and music I am going to use.  Below is the script for my preliminary task. It contains a jingle for a radio station called Sports Talk, which has an interview with Ryan Caine, the winner of the Wimbledon tennis match, which happend over the weekend.  Jingle: Sport Talk 96.4 FM – The best sporting action 24/7 Archive clip: tennis documentary Sound effects -Cheering sounds from audience -Sound of the racket and tennis ball The best sporting action 24/7 (cheering in the background) – slo

Briefs of tasks involved

Brief of tasks involved For my AS media course work I have been given the task to create a short radio extract, containing a radio presenter, a jingle, the news and introducing a surprise guest/a guest responding and an archive clip featuring the guest. I will script, record and edit a 5 minute sequence from an imaginary radio, which will also include a news bulletin. Before I write my script I need to ensure that I have researched the structure of news stories as well as listening to a variety of radio shows, so that my extract will sound as realistic as possible.  However, before I start this research and planning I am go ing to script my preliminary task. This task was to create a short radio extract, including a jingle, radio presenter, a guest and an archive clip featuring the guest.
