Ofcom character of service sheets
I have chosen to look at character of service sheets, by looking at Ofcom's website. I have looked at a few of these for existing radio stations, such as Capital, Capital Xtra and Kiss. I have chosen radio stations which are similar to my own radio show. This will enable me to get an idea of the types of audiences, as well as creating my own character sheet for my radio show.
The character sheets includes the area of where the radio show is broadcasted, the stations frequency, the target audience's age range along with the type of music the radio show plays.
Below are the character of service sheets for radio stations; Capital, Capital Xtra and Kiss.
CAPITAL FM LONDON
CAPITAL XTRA NORTH LONDON
KISS LONDON

Below are the character of service sheets for radio stations; Capital, Capital Xtra and Kiss.
CAPITAL FM LONDON
Capital broadcasts its show to a national audience and has a wide population; 7,045,749. The stations target audience aims at under 40s, and plays mainstream, popular music. Alongside music, the show plays local news throughout peak times on weekdays and weekends. These peak times are weekday breakfast and drive-time and weekend late breakfast. This suggests a lot of Capitals listeners will tune in on their way to work and school. UK-wide, nations and international news also features during other times.
Capital Xtra North London is a good character sheet to analyse, as my radio is also broadcasting local news from within this area. There is a population of 1,929,148 which is considerably less then Capital London has, however this is not surprising and it operates within a smaller, local community. There is no reference on the character sheet to an age of the target audience, thus implying how it is aimed at all age groups within North London. Although, the sheet states how this show is a service which is for listeners of Afro-Carribean and African origin. This implies how the station mainly plays contemporary black music, such as Rnb, hip hop and rap.
In comparison to the others, Kiss is aimed for a target audience of under 30's. This station has a slightly smaller population than Capital has; with 6703,389 listeners. Kiss broadcasts its show within the London area and represents itself as a contemporary and classic dance music station. The station ensures that 36 hours a week are taken up with specialist sub-genres of specialist music features. Along side music, local news, outside peak, UK-wide, nations and international news will also feature.
After analysing the Character of service sheets for radio stations Capital, Capital Xtra and Kiss I have created my own Character sheet for my radio station; North Sides FM.
