National/international News story 7 - Family/education

Below is a link to the article, taken from BBC News

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-41966554

This article is about a teacher facing disciplinary action at the school he works at, due to referring to a transgender student as a girl, despite the pupils identification as a boy.

I am going to analyze the article, and find the 5 W'S as well as the news values. Below is what I found:

5W's

Who: Maths teacher of children ages between 11-18 and pastor at the Christ Revelation church in Oxford.
What: H referred to one of his students with the wrong gender.
Where: A school in Oxford.
When: November 2nd 2017.
Why: He tried to balance his beliefs with the intentions of treating his pupil with sensitivity and did not think it was wrong to refer to a pupil as 'she' if they were born as a girl.
News Values
Immediacy: The story happend very recently, on november 2nd, meaning it is 'breaking'.
Familiarity: The event was geographically close to us in Britain, meaning it happend close to home.
Scandal: This story is likely to provoke moral outrage from parts of the audience who are transgender, or others who are likely to get offended by this.
Frequency: There have been other reports in the news about issues people may have with transgender people.
Surprise: This could potentially be a surprising event as we are supposably living in a day and age today where society is a lot more accepting.
